Our GREAT NORTHERN story
Hand-blended in small batches in Northwich, Cheshire, Great Northern Spice Co is an artisan spice company founded and run by a passionate husband-and-wife team dedicated to bold, real flavour without the bad stuff.

We firmly believe that great-tasting food shouldn’t rely on additives, excess salt or hidden sugars — and we think you’ll agree that our spice blends look just as good in your kitchen as they taste.
Our journey began in our own Cheshire kitchen, where Paul spent years perfecting his own spice blends for healthy, sugar-free cooking — especially for Lotty, who has type 1 diabetes. Frustrated by the limited, sugar- and preservative-packed options in supermarkets, Paul got to work crafting clean, flavourful alternatives using only natural, high-quality ingredients.

Today, we’re spicing up kitchens across the UK with a growing range of over 40 handcrafted seasonings, rubs, curry blends, sea salt pots and infused olive oils — all made with real ingredients and zero nasties. Our products are naturally zero sugar, gluten-free and vegan-friendly so they’re great for everyday cooking too.

From globally inspired blends such as Greek Gyros and Ethiopian Berbere to crowd favourites like Memphis BBQ and our Great Taste Award-winning Cape Malay Curry Blend, every jar packs pure, world-class flavour without compromise.

In 2025, we were proud to be finalists in the Cheshire Life Awards for Food & Drink Producer of the Year, and to win a Great Taste Award for our Cape Malay Curry Blend — recognitions that reflect our commitment to quality artisan food. Our products are available through our online shop, at artisan markets and food festivals across the North West, and at an expanding number of farm shop, deli and independent stockists — including The Hollies Farm Shop and other local outlets.

Originally a Manchester boy, now living in Cheshire. When he's not blending spices for Great Northern, Paul works as a Business Development Manager in education.
On weekends, if you don't see him at an artisan market, he's likely to be playing cricket in the Cheshire league.

Lotty works as a full time Digital Marketing & Design Freelancer, helping small & medium businesses grow (get in touch below if you're a small business looking for marketing, website and branding support).
On weekends, she'll be with Paul trading on the artisan markets or watching the cricket with a picnic.
