Traditionally made with lamb, the shawarma is a popular street food dish originating from the Middle East is normally found in the form of a large piece of meat stacked up on a vertical rotisserie with thin slices shaved off as it rotates. We however will do it the easy way by either cooking chunks of meat in an air fryer, under a grill, or on the BBQ!

Chicken Shawarma Kebabs Recipe
You will need...
Ingredients
4 large boneless and skinless chicken thighs, cut in half
1 red onion, sliced into wedges
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 flatbreads
Hummus (to spread onto the flatbread)
Lettuce, chopped Cucumber, sliced or diced (for garnish)
2-4 small metal skewers
For the marinade
2 tablespoons Great Northern Spice Shawarma Rub & Seasoning
3 tablespoons natural yogurt
1 teaspoon garlic paste (or chopped garlic)
1/2 lemon, juiced
How to cook
Step 1 can be done the night before, or up to a few hours before.
In a large bowl, add the chicken, and mix in the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and 2 tablespoons of our Shawarma Seasoning. Mix well so all of the chicken is marinated.
Option 1 - Air fryer: Individually place the marinated chicken into the air fryer, and cook at 200℃ for 20 minutes, turning over halfway through. Option 2 - Grill: Put the marinated chicken onto skewers, then line up under your grill. Cook at 180℃ for 15-20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes to ensure all sides are cooked. Option 3 - BBQ: Put the marinated chicken onto skewers, then line up on your BBQ grill. Cook on a medium to high heat for 15-20 minutes, turning every few minutes to ensure it doesn't burn. although you will want a slight charring effect.
With a few minutes to go, warm up the flatbread, spread the hummus over it, then garnish with the peppers, onion, lettuce and cucumber.
Serve the skewers (or air-fried chicken) onto the flatbread, pour over your choice of sauce and enjoy! Also great with a Middle Eastern Chickpea Salad!
