Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon of Great Northern Spice Sicilian Herb Seasoning

  • 350g of your meatball option (why not try making your own?)

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  • 1 medium red onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, or 2 teaspoons chopped garlic

  • 1 carrot, finely chopped

  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped

  • 500g passata

  • 200ml red wine (or 200ml beef stock + 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar)

  • 1 tablespoon tomato purée

  • Worcestershire sauce (optional)

How to cook  - 4 easy steps

  1. In a large frying pan on a medium to high heat, add the olive oil and start to fry the meatballs / veggie balls until browned - 5 minutes. Then transfer to a side plate and cover.

  2. Next, add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the pan and fry until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the tomato puree and cook for another minute.

  3. Add the red wine (or stock with red wine vinegar) and stir in. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Add the passata and 2 tablespoon of Sicilian Herb Seasoning and stir in. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Try splashing a little bit of Worcestershire sauce for extra flavour.

  4. Return the meatballs to the pan and let them cook in the sauce for another 15-20 minutes. Serve in bowls and enjoy!

Tips for serving

Serve in a bowl over the gnocchi, or on their own with some crusty bread. For a low carb option, serve the meatballs on top of a salad bowl.
