The aromatic blend of herbs and spices, combined with the tender pork and vegetables creates a mouthwatering dish that transports you back to the sun-soaked streets of Greece. Cook these kebabs on the BBQ for the best flavour.
This Greek Souvlaki Pork Recipe uses the Great Northern Spice Co Souvlaki Seasoning.
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons of Great Northern Spice Souvlaki Seasoning
400g pork shoulder steak, diced into large chunks
4 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons of garlic paste
1 red onion, cut in to quarters
1/2 yellow bell pepper, cut in to chunks
1/2 red bell pepper, cut in to chunks
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 Greek style pitta breads
2 medium tomatoes, sliced, to serve (optional)
Greek feta, to serve (optional)
Lemon juice, to serve (optional)
4 metal skewers (recommended) - if using wooden skewers, soak these beforehand for 20 minutes in water so they don't burn.
HOW TO COOK - BBQ OR OVEN
If you have time, marinade the pork for 2 hours prior to cooking, or ideally overnight. In a large glass bowl, add the olive oil, white wine vinegar, garlic and 2 tablespoons of our Souvlaki Seasoning. Mix together to make a marinade. Add the pork and mix until each piece is marinated.
Start to assemble your skewers with the pork and chunks of vegetables, building it how you like. We recommend adding one chunk of onion at the bottom and then the pork to keep it secure.
If cooking on the BBQ, place the skewers on the hot grill for 8-15 minutes - depending on your BBQ and the size of pork chunks. Carefully turn halfway through and check that the meat is cooked thoroughly before serving. If cooking in the oven, place the skewers on a flat baking tray for 15 minutes at 200°C, until cooked right through.
Serve on a warm Greek style pita breads with sliced tomatoes and feta cheese. Squeeze over juice of the lemon to finish.
